Kip' Chelashaw
Curate
Hello, my name is Kip’. Actually my full name is Kiprotich Chelashaw but most people find that too difficult to remember.
I am 34 years old and I am originally from Kenya (although I don't do any running!).
I am married to Rachel and we currently attend the two Churches in the parish – St. James' church, Audley and St John's Alagers Bank.
Rachel and I met at a party at the theological college where I trained for Anglican ministry (Goodness! Are parties allowed at theological college?)
After theological college I worked briefly with a publishing house/book supplier in Surrey and then just before moving up to Alsagers Bank, Rachel and I got married in London.
Rachel was born in South Africa to missionary parents and is currently working as a nurse at the North Staffs hospital.

I was born in Nairobi (the capital city of Kenya) and grew up in a Christian home where my mum spent many evenings reading the psalms and praying with us.
My journey to Christian faith was a gradual one although I remember key “ah-ha” moments in my early years when it dawned on me that Jesus was the one true saviour and I was a sinner

When I arrived in the UK in 1997, I was in for a great shock.
I had always assumed that England was a Christian country with many going to Church and was therefore disillusioned and confused to see the apathy with which many of my friends treated the Church/Christian things back then.
Since then I have sought to discern what issues alienate people from the Church and consequently tried my best to present the only hope and answer to all our longings – the Prince of Peace who promises to give rest to all who are weary and heavy-laden (Matthew 11:28-30).

Since starting my curacy I have begun a scheme, trying to visit every home in parish with the hope that when the times come to move on, I can say (like Paul) to those in this parish “I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.
For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.” (Acts 20:26-27). Please pray for me, that God would help me accomplish this.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
