What is More To Life 2008?
More To Life 2008 is a week of events being planned by St James Audley and St John's Alsager's Bank for the run-up to Easter 2008. The exact dates are Sunday 16th March to Sunday 23rd March.
We believe the words of Jesus when he said "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10). This means that there is more to life than many people realise. Knowing Jesus gives the richest life of all, and we want as many people as possible to share in this fullness of life.
To that end we, as churches, are hosting More To Life 2008. More To Life 2008 will be a week when we offer the message of life through Jesus Christ to as many people as we can.
Whos is running More To Life 2008?
St James church in Audley and St John's church in Alsager's Bank are running this together. A dozen-strong planning team has been meeting for a year now to plan the shape of this week of events.
We will be joined for the week by a team of students from Oak Hill Theological College, led by a member of their teaching staff, David Field. They will be helping us run the various events and be speaking at them.
What events are planned?
The week starts and ends on a Sunday, so we will be having our usual Sunday services at 8.15 and 10.45am (in Audley) and at 9.30am (in Alsager's Bank). At each of these services a member of the team will speak, and there will be plenty of opportunities to meet some of the other members too.
Midweek there are a good number of events on - there is plenty of variety, so there really is something for everyone! Some are ticketed events (often at no, or minimal cost), so please get in touch for more information.
- Express - an informal service for teenagers - Sunday 16th March, 7pm, St James church hall
- Songs of praise - a chance to enjoy some well-known and favourite hymns, with a short talk - Sunday 16th March, 7pm, St James Church
- Balti Night - enjoy a short talk and a relaxed evening in company over a curry - Monday 17th March, 7pm, New Royal Balti, Audley
- Science and Christianity - a panel and debate event - Tuesday 18th March, 7.30pm, St James church hall
- Railway Walk - a walk along sections of the old railway line through Audley - Wednesday 19th March, 10am-4pm, starting in Alsager
- Unity Choir - an informal concert with opportunities for audience participation - Thursday 20th March, 3.30pm, St John's Church
- Pie and Pea Night - enjoy the Butchers' Arms famous pies, and with an after-dinner talk on the theme of "More To Life" - Thursday 20th March, 7.30pm, upstairs of The Butchers Arms, Audley
- Lamb Kebabs - an evening meal with an angle (what do lamb kebabs have to do with Maundy Thursday - come and find out!) - Thursday 20th March, 7.30pm, St James Church Hall
- Good Friday Open Air Service - 10.30am, Audley in the car park situated between Co-op and Tesco Express
- Kidspace - a holiday club for school years 1-6 - Friday 21st March, 1.30pm-3.30pm, St James Hall
- Good Friday Meditations - a quiet and reflective service to discover afresh the significance of Good Friday - Friday 21st March: St John's Church (3pm); St James Church (7.30pm)
- Youth Night - An evening of activities, games, songs, snacks and a short talk - Friday 21st March, 7.30pm, St James Church Hall
- Men's Breakfast - The Full English breakfast, with a talk to steer us to food that really satisfies - Saturday 22nd March, 9am, St James Church Hall
- Tree Walk - A tour of some of Audley's more interesting trees, and some of the Bible's more interesting trees - Saturday 22nd March, 10.30am, starting at St James church
- Football Fun Day - For all ages - Saturday 22nd March, 10.30am-12.30pm, Audley football club
What will happen after the week is over?
We anticipate people wanting to find out more about the Christian faith. To that end, we will be running a number of follow-on resources that people can use to take things further.
We are offering a range of resources so that everyone has something that they can do which is appropriate for them. But the fact that we are providing several resources means that people need to have the chance to consider what they will do. To that end we are running 4 events entitled "More To Life - For You" that will allow us to explore the options with people in a relaxed way.
